At Stonebank Farm Leonard Hobson helps Alison Cotterill with the washing up. He says this would be what it was like
if they were married. He says they would have been married a year and they might even have had a baby. Alison
tells Leonard that she did have a baby but it didn't live. Leonard Hobson is surprised and asks what happened.
Alison tells him that the Hunter's, who she works for, have a son and she was in love with him. Leonard asks if the
son was in love with her, and Alison says no. Leonard says that's no reason for her to give up her whole life and lock
herself away.
Alison Cotterill goes to the convent and talks to Sister Celestine. Alison tells Sister Celestine that she was going
to ask Mother Mary Peter if she could come to the convent over Christmas. "What about your uncle?" asks Sister Celestine.
"I try not to think about him," says Alison.
Tom Peterson goes to Chimney's and he and Jill kiss. Jill opens a bottle of pills and Tom asks what they are.
Jill tells him they are tranquillisers, and Tom tells her that she doesn't need them. "I care. I love you and
I think you love me," says Tom. "I think I do," says Jill. Tom says she doesn't sound very sure and Jill tells
him that she has had a lot of worries and she doesn't want to rush into anything.
Walter Fallon joins Adam Chance in the sitting room and Adam tells him that he is having a few problems with his boat.
He says it needs a lot of work doing but he hasn't got the money.
Tom Peterson finds Jill Harvey in the office and thanks her for last evening. He holds her and they kiss. Rita
Hughes comes into the room and Tom Peterson leaves. "Perhaps I should knock every time I come in," says Rita Hughes.
Jill goes over the Christmas bookings and finds a double booking. She accuses Rita Hughes of making the mistake and
Rita tells her not to take out her guilty feelings on her. Jill leaves the office as Adam Chance comes in.
Later, Adam Chance finds Jill Harvey and asks her what's going on between her and Rita Hughes. Jill tells Adam that
Tom Peterson ditched Rita Hughes for her and Rita can't take it. Adam asks Jill how serious it is between her and
Tom Peterson. "He loves me and I love him. Is that serious enough for you?" says Jill.
Rita Hughes complains to Walter Fallon that it's been one of days and she has still got lots of filing to do.
Walter Fallon tells her to go home and he'll take care of the filing.
Doris Luke goes to Stonebank Farm and tells Reg Cotterill that he should be ashamed of himself. "You sent for Leonard
Hobson didn't you?" she asks. Reg tells her that he did it for Alison.
Walter Fallon tells Adam Chance that he would like to buy his shares, and asks Adam to get in touch with his accountant
to find out how much they are worth.
Alison Cotterill and Leonard Hobson return to Stonebank Farm. Alison goes upstairs and Doris Luke asks Leonard if
he is going to marry Alison. Leonard Hobson says he hasn't asked her yet. Doris tells Leonard that he must tell
Alison the truth. Alison comes into the room and overhears their conversation, and she asks Leonard what it is that
he has to tell her. Leonard tells Alison that her uncle wrote to him and asked him to come. Alison tells leonard
that she is disappointed, she thought his coming was a sign for her not to join the convent.
Later, after Leonard Hobson has left Alison tells Reg Cotterill that Leonard told her that he had sent for him. She
says she admires Leonard for telling her the truth. Reg tells Alison that he only did it for her, and he asks Alison
to give Leonard a chance.
The following day Leonard Hobson arrives at Stonebank Farm and Alison goes to the kitchen to prepare a meal. Leonard
tells Alison that she can serve God as a wife and mother. He kisses her and asks her to marry him. "I can't,"
says Alison. "I'm to be a bride of Christ," she says. "No!" shouts Leonard. He tells Alison that
he will become a catholic if she marries him.
Adam Chance tells Walter Fallon that he has been thinking about his proposition of selling him his shares and
he is very interested but it will have to be approved by his fellow directors.
Leonard Hobson prepares to leave Stonebank Farm and Reg Cotterill says surely he isn't going to give up. Leonard
tells him that Alison is far away from them already.
Meg goes to the office and asks Rita Hughes if she has seen Walter Fallon. Rita tells her that Walter Fallon left
a note for her. Meg opens the envelope and reads the note. She tells Rita Hughes that Walter Fallon has been called
away on business and he will be away for a few days.
Jill Harbey has a drink with Marion Owen and apologises for shouting at her about the prescription. Marion tells
her that she seems to be getting through the pills quickly. Jill tells her that things are getting better now.
She tells Marion that she thinks she is in love. Marion Owen asks if it's anyone she knows and Jill tells her it's Tom Peterson,
a guest at the motel.
Alison Cotterill visits the convent and asks Mother Mary Peter if she can spend Christmas Day at the convent. Mother
Mary Peter says she thought she would have wanted to spend Christmas with her uncle.
Kath Brownlow tells Arthur that Iris Scott is coming home for Christmas.
Mother Mary Peter talks to Sister Celestine and points out that she was watching television and almost missed prayers.
Sister Celestine apologises. Mother Mary Peter tells Sister Celestine that she coverts the outside world and that isn't
good. Sister Celestine asks Mother Mary Peter if she wants her to leave, and Mother Mary Peter says no.
Reg Cotterill tells Alison that he owes her an apology for bringing Leonard Hobson here, and tells her that he won't stand
in her way. Alison tells him that Mother mary Peter said she could stay at the convent over Christmas.
Rita Hughes asks Jill Harvey if she is seeing Tom Peterson tonight and Jill says no. "I expect you'll miss him,"
says Rita, and Jill looks at her, puzzled. Rita tells Jill that Tom told her that he was going on an overseas job.
"He didn't tell me anything," says Jill.
Doris Luke goes to Stonebank Farm and Reg Cotterill tells her that it will be just the two of them for Christmas dinner
because Alison is spending Christmas with her new friends. He tells Doris that he understands if she wants to spend
Christmas with her friends, but Doris says no, she would like to soend it with him.
Walter Fallon returns to the motel and speaks with Adam Chance. "Now we see him, now we don't," says Adam.
Walter Fallon apologises for his hasty exit but says that there were one or two things he had to sort out. He tells
Adam that he is now in a position to make a good offer to Adam for his shares. Adam tells him that he had better talk
to Meg Mortimer about it.
