Jim Baines comes into reception and Glenda Brownlow tells him that a man phoned earlier and said that he had won the pools.

Diane asks Jane Smith what is going on and Jane explains that Pat Grogan had nowhere to stay.  Diane tells her that he isn't staying at the flat.  Jane asks Diane how Benny is coping on his own, and at Pat's puzzled look she explains that Ed Lawton is in hospital.  "You mean Benny's out there all on his own," says Pat.

Glenda Brownlow asks Jim Baines if it's true that he won the pools and Jim says yes, it is.

Pat Grogan goes off to the Salvation Army hostel.  Diane warns Jane not to let Pat lead her on.  "He's not like that.  He's a good person.  He was out of luck and I helped him, but you don't understand that do you.  You don't understand anything!" shouts Jane and storms out.

Tish Hope gives David Chris Hunter's bill and David says he will take care of it.  He walks out of the motel looking at the bill and passes Diane Parker in the doorway.  "Good morning Mr Hunter," she says but David doesn't hear her.

Diane goes to Heywood Farm  and asks Doris Luke if everything is alright.  Doris tells her that Benny has been cruel and thoughtless.  At that moment Benny comes into the farm kitchen and Doris Luke leaves the room sobbing.  Diane asks Benny what has upset Doris and Benny tells her that Starry the goat got into the house and chewed up Doris's straw hat.  "You should be more careful," says Diane, then bursts out laughing.

Chris Hunter goes to see David in the office and tells him that he will try to make up for all the trouble he has caused.  He gives David a letter and asks him if he would give it to Meg to read, if she wants to.

Diane Parker tells Doris Luke that Benny is very sorry about her hat.  "I can't rally expect him to acti like an adult.  He's a child really," says Doris, but Diane warns her that isn't the way to treat Benny.

Tom Read, Benny's father, arrives at Heywood Farm following a phone call from Benny, and asks Benny what is wrong.  Benny tells him that Doris Luke has come to look after him whilst Ed Lawton is in hospital, and he doesn't like her.  Tom Read tells him that he can sack her if she causes too much trouble.  "Show her who's boss and give her a week's notice," Tom Read tells Benny.

Chris Hunter says his goodbyes to Tish Hope and Sandy.  David takes him out of the motel.  Chris pauses for a moment.  "You alright?" asks David.  "Yeah.  I was just thinking of something Simone said," says Chris.  "Simone was wrong about a lot of things," David tells him.  "Come on," he says and puts his arm around Chris's shoulders.

Tom Read asks Diane about Doris Luke.  Diane says Doris has been listening to talk in the village and she is a bit frightened of Benny.

Jim Baines tells Sharon Metcalfe that he sin't going to work anymore.

Diane asks Doris if she would like to stay on at the farm after Ed Lawton is out of hospital, and Doris says she would be happy to stay on.  Diane says if she does she will have to get on with Benny.  "He's just the same as everyone else, except he's a bit slower.  We're all very fond of him," says Diane.

Alan Brisley goes to see Jim Baines in his chalet and asks him about the publicity.  Jim says everyone knows now so he may as well do a story on it.

Sharon Metcalfe goes to see Jim in his chalet and Jim shows her a pile of letters he has received and tells her that he will need someone to answer them.  "No Jim," says Sharon.  "How about a kiss then," says Jim.

Pat Grogan phones a friend of his and asks him to get Seamus Flynn to contact him.

Sandy tells David that they have problems with the staff in the cafeteria and there are three girls planning to leave.

Pat Grogan goes to Heywood Farm to see Benny.

David asks Diane Parker if she has any idea why the girls in the cafeteria are leaving.  Diane tells him that she thinks it's because Fairlawns Hotel are offering more money.

Benny tells Pat Grogan that he is looking for someone to help around the farm.  He tells Pat that he will pay a wage and he will get his meals free.  Pat says he doesn't think Doris Luke will take too kindly to cooking for him.  "It don't matter about her.  I'm in charge here," says Benny.

Diane asks Glenda Brownlow why everyone in the cafeteria is leaving to go and work at Fairlawns Hotel, and Glenda tells her that it's something to do with paying less insurance which saves you quite a bit every week.  "It's worth thinking about isn't it," says Glenda.  Diane phones Fairlawns Hotel and enquires about a job.  She gives a false name and asks about the wages.
