Background
 
Shooting for this episode began on December 20th, 1974.  WIth breaks for Christmas and the New Year, the episode took eleven working days to complete, finishing on January 9th, 1975.
 
During a make-up session, Prentis Hancock was found to have a small growth on his neck and was admitted to hospital to have it removed.  In the episode Koenig tells Sandra that Paul had an accident and sustained injuries of two fractured ribs and a broken ankle.  Actor Gary Waldhorn takes over the control of Main Mission as Winters.
 
Martin Bower designed and built the three Alpha laser tanks and the two differently scaled Gwent spaceship models over a period of twelve days.
 
There were extensive problems in getting the paddles of the larger Gwent to roll correctly when in flight and upon completion of filming Nick Allder smashed it out of sheer frustration.
 
Companion's bed had already been seen in 'Collision Course' as Arra's throne.
