Space 1999 is a British science-fiction series created in the 1970's by the husband and wife team, Gerry and Slyvia Anderson, who were already famous for bringing us the Thunderbirds, Fireball XL5, and UFO.

The story begins on September 13th, 1999, when nuclear waste consigned from Earth and stored in Disposal Areas on the moon, explodes in a catastrophic accident, blasting the moon out of Earth's orbit and sending the 311 inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha hurtling into space.

And so begins mans' biggest adventure.
