Crossroads was a soap opera set in a motel near the fictional Midlands village of Kings Oak. Crossroads was
first aired on 2nd November 1964, and was shown five days a week until 1967 when it was cut to four times a week. The
original series ran until 1988, and it was revived in 2001, but finally came off the air in May 2003.
The main character in the original series was motel owner Meg Richardson, who was played by Noele Gordon. She
was helped in the running of the motel by her two children Jill (played by Jane Rossington) and Sandy (played by Roger Tonge).
In 1971 Meg was joined by new motel manager David Hunter, played by Ronald Allen. Other major characters included
Tish Hope, Barbara Brady, Shughie McFee, Diane Parker, and Amy Turtle.
Noele Gordon's character was axed in 1981 when Meg Mortimer was thought to have died in a Bonfire Night fire at the motel.
She eventually sailed off on the QE2 to start a new life away from the motel. Other characters axed in 1985
included the popular David Hunter and his wife Barbara.
