The soap opera Compact was launched by the BBC in 1962 and centred around the lives of the staff who worked on a woman's glossy magazine.  The majority of the action took place in the high-rise Compact offices in Enterprise House in London's Victoria.

The programme was devised by Hazel Adair and Peter Ling, who went on to create Crossroads.  Compact was screened on a Tuesday and Thursday night so as not to clash with Coronation Street.

Responses to the programme were mixed and the show was dropped in 1965.
