Doris Luke and Reg Cotterill do the washing up at Stonebank Farm.  Reg tells Doris that he knows she blames him for what happened to Alison, and that she is always going to remind him of what happened.  "You'll have to face up to her sometime," Doris Luke tells him.  "It was an accident woman!" shouts Reg Cotterill.

Tom Peterson orders dinner from Jill Harvey and she offers a suggestion for wine.  Tom Peterson takes her suggestion and walks away from the reception desk.  "Mr Peterson," calls Jill.  Tom Peterson walks back to the reception desk.  "I want to apologise for the other day.  I was in a foul temper.  It was nothing to do with you," says Jill.  "You can do something for me.  Join me for dinner," says Tom Peterson.

Tom Peterson and Jill Harvey go into the sitting room.  Tom talks about his girlfriend of six years and Jill asks him why they have never married.  Tom says it never seemed important enough.  Tom says he has talked enough about himself.  "What about you.  An attractive woman.  I can see you with a home and family.  I've not heard about them," says Tom Peterson.  "Because they're not there," says Jill.  "I tried but it didn't work out," she says.  "Between us we make a right pair," says Tom, and touches Jill's hand.  Meg comes into the sitting room at that moment and see's the gesture.

The next day Meg apologises to Jill for interupting her and Tom Peterson.  Jill tells her that she wasn't interupting anything.  Meg says she wasn't criticising, she's quite glad really as it's what Jill needs.  Meg tells Jill it's better than being shut away at Chimneys.  "Will you do something for me Mum," says Jill.  "What?" asks Meg.  "Mind your own business," says Jill.  "Don't you talk to me like that," says Meg.  Jill says whatever she does Meg seems to be checking up on her.  "It's only because I care about you," says Meg.

Doris Luke visits Alison Cotterill in hospital and Alison tells her that the ward is terrible.  She says she can hear babies crying all the time.  "I can hear one now, can't you?" asks Alison.  Doris listens but can't hear anything.  Alison says she has to leave now and she gets out of bed.  She asks Doris to take her home but Doris Luke says she can't do that.  Alison opens the cupboard beside her bed.  "Miss Luke, where are my clothes?" asks Alison.

Kath and Arthur Brownlow wait for Iris Scott to come home.  They hear the front door bang shut.  "Iris!" shouts Arthur.  Iris comes into the living room and Arthur asks her where she has been.  Iris tells him that she has been working.  Arthur says she could have phoned and Iris says she did but it was engaged.  Arthur tells her that she could have tried again.  "They pay me to work, not to hang about on the phone to you," says Iris.

Kath Brownlow brings Iris in her meal and Iris says she has already eaten.  Arthur tells Kath to put the food back in the oven and Iris will have it tomorrow.  "Oh no Arthur," says Kath.  Arthur tells her to do as he says.  Kath walks out of the room.  "I've had enough of you messing up our lives.  You can cut out all this nonesense or pack your bags," Arthur tells Iris.  Iris runs out of the room and upstairs.  Kath Brownlow comes back into the living room.  Moments later Iris Scott comes back downstairs with a suitcase and before Kath can stop her she leaves.  "Now are you satisfied," Kath tells Arthur.  "She's up to her tricks," says Arthur.

Doris Luke tells Alison Cotterill that she has spoken to the nursing sister and there are no maternity wards nearby.  Alison sits on the side of her bed and tells Doris that she is tired.  Doris tells her that she should lie down and try and go to sleep.  Doris says she'll draw back the bed clothes.  Doris bends to pulls the bed clothes down and Alison runs out of the ward.  "Alison!" shouts Doris.

Jill Harvey apologises to Meg for shouting at her.  Meg tells her daughter that she might be able to help if she knew exactly what was wrong.  Jill says she can't help.

Marion Owen answers a latenight ring at her doorbell and finds Iris Scott on her doorstep crying.  "Iris.  Whatever's the matter?" she asks, and Iris falls sobbing into her arms.  "Iris.  Don't upset yourself," says Marion Owen.  She takes Iris into the living room and asks her what's wrong.  Iris tells her that Arthur Brownlow told her to get out.  Marion says she can't believe it.

Kath Brownlow waits for Iris Scott to return home.  Arthur Brownlow comes downstairs and asks Kath if she intends waiting up all night.

Marion Owen tells Iris Scott that she can stay with her for tonight but she must phone Kath Brownlow to let her know where she is.  Marion telephones the Brownlow house and Kath answers the phone.  Marion Owen tells Kath not to worry and that iris is with her.  Kath tells Marion that Arthur will come and fetch Iris but Marion says she thinks it's best if Iris stays with her for tonight.

When Kath Brownlow puts the phone down Arthur asks what is happening and Kath tells him that Iris is with Marion Owen.  Arthur says Iris isn't content with ruining their lives but she has to drag other people into it.  "Oh shut up Arthur," says Kath.

Sandy receives a phone call from Freya Offermans who tells him that her and Stan Harvey are spending Christmas in Germany and they would like Sarah Jane with them.

Alison Cotterill returns to Stonebank Farm and Reg tells her to go to her room to rest.  Later, Reg Cotterill calls upstairs to ask Alison if she needs anything and Alison says she just wants to sleep.  Suddenly Alison sits upright in her bed and stares at something only she can see.

Alison Cotterill goes downstairs and Reg see's her smile.  He asks her what has happened.  "I felt God.  I've never had this feeling before.  He called my name and touched me," says Alison.  Reg tells her that it is a sign that he has forgiven her.  "It's more than that.  It's as if he had a place for me.  Everything looks so much clearer.  It's something he wants me to do, but I don't know what it is yet," says Alison.
