The following morning Shughie wakes up in his flat from an uncomfortable nights sleep on the settee.  Gerry Hurst asks him for some money and Shughie tells him he won't get any money from him.  "You know what will happen if you don't co-operate," warns Gerry Hurst.

Adam Chance comes downstairs at Chimney's to breakfast prepared by Val Saunders.  Suddenly Val Saunders starts sobbing and Adam does his best to console her.

Shughie McFee goes to the cupboard in his kitchen and takes out a tin containing some money.  He gives Gerry Hurst £5 and then leaves for work.  Once he has gone Gerry Hurst goes straight to the cupboard and looks in every tin until he finds the tin containing Shughie's money.  He helps himself.

Val Saunders tells Adam Chance that she will leave because it's not fair on him.  "Look Val, surely there's a way," he says.  Once Val has left for work, Jill tells Adam that she will tell Val about how he feels about people gossiping.  "Ar, no don't do that," says Adam.  "Have you two talked?" asks Jill.  "We had a little chat," Adam tells her.

Glenda Brownlow tells Benny that she hasn't heard from Gerry Hurst for a week and she is a bit worried.  At that moment Gerry Hurst comes into the staff room and Glenda rushes up to him, and hugs him.  Gerry tells her that he has found somewhere to live and he is going to take her out to dinner and then to a disco.  "But what about the money?  You know I don't get paid until Friday," says Glenda.  "Don't worry, I'm loaded," says Gerry Hurst, and shows her a wad of money.

Sandy receives a phone call from Bernard Booth to say that he will be staying with Helen until the baby is born.

Doris Luke notices that Shughie McFee is looking tired.  Shughie tells her that there is a new tenant moved in and he makes a lot of noise.  Doris says he should have carpet put in.  She says she will come round to his flat and help him measure for the carpet.  "No!" shouts Shughie.  "I mean, it's not convenient.  People are beginning to talk," says Shughie.

Meg asks Shughie to come into the office and tells him that Mr Booth won't be coming back to the motel until after Helen has had the baby, so Shughie will be on his own in the kitchen.  Shughie says they can rely on him.

Kathryn Fisher  visits Ted Hope in his flat above the antique shop.  He asks her to have lunch with him.  Kathryn tries to open up the table.  "How does this work?" she asks Ted.  Ted stands beside her and takes her arm.  "Like this," he says and kisses her.

Gerry Hurst takes Glenda Brownlow back to Shughie's flat and gives her a present of a scarf.  He asks her for a thank you kiss.  Glenda gives him a little peck but Gerry grabs her.  At that moment Shughie McFee walks in.  "Mr McFee, what are you doing here?" asks Glenda.  "As a matter of fact I live here," annonunces Shughie.

Kathryn Fisher tells Lloyd Munro that she will be going back to America in a couple of days.

Lloyd Munro and Kathryn Fisher go to Ted and Tish Hope's flat for dinner.  Tish mentions that Meg will have to help out in the kitchen because Mr Booth is away, and as a result she will have to spend more time at the motel herself.  Ted says he hardly see's anything of her as it is and he really needs an assistant to help out in the shop.  "In fact Kathryn, you would make an ideal assistant," says Ted.  Kathryn refuses his offer but then agrees to help out for a week or two.

David and Chris Hunter order drinks in reception.  David tells Chris that he doesn't seem to care about anything anymore, there's no purpose to him.  David says he has a lot of potential and it shouldn't waste it.  David accuses him of taking the easy way out.

Tish Hope asks Ted about Meg's figurine and Ted tells her that he just stuck it back together.  "Never!" says Kathryn Fisher.  "Come on, I'll show you," says Ted and he and Kathryn disappear downstairs to the shop.

"You don't think much of me, do you," David tells Chris.  "I didn't say that," says Chris.  David tells his son that he wants him to achieve something he can be proud of and have successful relationships with people.  "What have you achieved?  You can't get close to people.  How many successful relationships have you had?" asks Chris.  David admits that he has not been much of a success.  "Being a failure is harder than being a success.  I failed with you," says David sadly.  The waitress arrives with two brandy's.  Chris stands up.  "I won't be needing that.  My father will be drinking alone.  That is the way you prefer it, isn't it?" says Chris loudly.

Doris Luke, Benny and Glenda Brownlow have tea in the staff room, and Doris tells them that Shughie doesn't want her to go around to his flat anymore.  Glenda says she knows why.  She says Mr McFee has got a heart of gold.

Sandy suggests to David that he offers Chris a job at the motel but David says he will have to speak to Meg first.  Later, Meg see's David in the office and he tells her that he was thinking of offering Chris a job at the motel.  "What do you think?" he asks.  "It's up to Chris," replies Meg.

Doris Luke tells Benny that they will both go to Shughie's flat tonight because Shughie is on duty at the motel.  Benny says if Mr McFee is out then there's no point in going to his flat because there will be no-one there.  "We'll see," says Doris.

Gerry Hurst, alone at Shughie McFee's flat, answers a knock on the door.  Doris Luke walks in.  "I thought it might be you," she says.  Gerry Hurst tells her to mind her own business, and says Shughie offered to share the flat with him.  Doris threatens to call the police if Gerry doesn't leave.  "I've got Benny waiting at the end of the stairs if you touch me," says Doris.  "I wouldn't touch you if you were the last person on earth," says Gerry.  Doris slaps him across the face.

Chris Hunter goes to David's flat and apologises for the row over dinner the other evening.  David says he has an offer to make.  "Thanks.  I really appreciate it, but no," says Chris.  "It's a job.  Meg has agreed.  Would you consider it?" asks David.  "Sorry, but that's just crazy.  No way Dad, no way," says Chris and walks out.
