Background
This episode was delivered to the production office on March 20th, 1974, after being written
from scratch by Johnny Byrne to meet a three week deadline.
Johnny Byrne became a staff writer, not only producing original scripts but also re-writing other
writers scripts to make them fit the format. He would also get involved in sorting technical problems and dealing with
both directors and the cast.
Director David Tomblin started working in the film industry as a third assistant director aged fourteen.
David worked on 'Invisible Man', 'Danger Man', becoming a fully fledged director and producer on 'The Prisoner'.
He both wrote and directed an episode of 'UFO'.
Amendments to the script were completed by March 25th, 1974 with additional
work on a number of scenes completed on April 1st.
The full-sized Eagle exterior, seen when the crew depart onto the
planet's surface, is an impressively detailed foreground cut-out.
When Helena Russell talks to her other self, the sequence was achieved
by doing a double exposure on the same piece of film and having Zienia Merton stand-in opposite Barbara Bain to give
her a point of focus.
