Background
Di Lorenzo completed his script for 'Ring Around The Moon' on December
14th, 1973. One source suggests that Di Lorenzo wrote this script partly because of his interest in mental awareness.
The script was extensively rewritten by Christopher Penfold and was finally
compeleted on January 17th, 1974.
Shooting got underway on this episode on Wednesday February 27th, 1974 with Ray Austin directing.
The Main Mission set had undergone slight alteration with the viewports being further forward, and
the Care Unit set from 'Matter of Life And Death' was used again.
In Di Lorenzo's original script the planet was called Uralt (German for ancient) not Triton.
Prentis Hancock, who played Paul Morrow, provided the voice of the alien.
Sylvia Anderson's son-in-law from her first marriage, Vic Elms, was due
to provide the music for this episode. As Elms could neither write music or conduct, he proceeded to demonstrate passages
on his guitar. The session musicians were less than impressed with Elms' unprofessional approach and refused to work
with him, leaving Alan Willis to save the day by improvising and interpreting the score. Elms would play no further
part in Space 1999, however he was credited throughout the first season as music associate.
